Accessibility Statement

Clarion Cells is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use to browse.

This commitment matters to us for a specific reason. Chronic stroke frequently leaves lasting motor impairment, and some of the people most likely to visit this site — patients and their families — may be navigating it with limited hand control, a keyboard instead of a mouse, assistive technology, or changes to their vision. A site about motor recovery that is difficult to operate would be a poor introduction to our work.

The Standard We Target

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium, and the level most widely referenced in accessibility law and policy.

Our Current Status

This site is fully conformantwith WCAG 2.2 Level AA. “Fully conformant” means the content meets the standard without exceptions, based on the testing described below.

What We Have Built In

  • Keyboard navigation throughout.Every interactive element can be reached and operated without a mouse. A “Skip to main content” link appears as soon as you begin tabbing, and focus is always visibly outlined.
  • Screen reader structure. Pages use proper landmark regions and heading hierarchy, navigation announces the current page, and the mobile menu is announced as a dialog, keeps keyboard focus inside itself while open, and closes on Escape.
  • Reduced motion support. If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, animated elements render as static content instead. The interactive visualization on the home page stops simulating rather than merely slowing down, and it is never required in order to read or use the page.
  • Forms built for assistive technology. Every field has a properly associated label. Errors are announced, not only shown in color, and the submit state is announced while it is in progress.
  • Touch targets sized for limited dexterity. Interactive elements meet the WCAG 2.5.8 minimum target size, including footer links, publication links, and outbound links to clinical trial registries.
  • Text that scales. Content reflows without loss of information when text is enlarged or the browser is zoomed.
  • No content that flashes or auto-plays. Nothing on the site plays sound or video without you choosing to start it.

Good to Know

  • Hardware-dependent visualization. The animated visualization on the home page requires modern graphics support. Where a browser or device cannot run it, the page renders a static background instead. No information is conveyed only through the animation.

How We Test

  • Automated accessibility auditing runs against every page on this site as part of our build process, using axe-core to check WCAG 2.2 Level AA criteria.
  • Accessibility rules are enforced while the site is being written, not only after.
  • Manual keyboard-only navigation testing across all pages and screen sizes.
  • Responsive testing across multiple screen widths and browser engines.

We have not yet completed a formal screen reader audit with a specialist. We intend to, and this statement will be updated when we do.
